Light Up London offers something for everyone at the 2013 ISU World Figure Skating Championships®
OTTAWA, ON: Skate Canada will be offering a variety of free activities for Londoners and their families to enjoy during the 2013 ISU World Figure Skating Championships at the outdoor Light Up London festival.
Interactive zones, live shows, displays, star appearances and a marketplace are a few of the highlights happening daily outside Budweiser Gardens and the adjacent facilities at Covent Garden Market. Vendors will be on hand to display their merchandise and artefacts and items commemorating the championships.
For the duration of the 2013 ISU World Figure Skating Championships, the City of London will be closing down car traffic in the vicinity of the arena and Covent Garden to offer skating fans unprecedented access to outdoor events and activities at the festival.
Moment Factory has created the Tree of Light, a 10 minute light and sound show which will be presented every evening during the 2013 ISU World Figure Skating Championships on the eastern exterior façade of the Budweiser Gardens. From March 10-16, 2013, Tree of Light will lead the audience through the journey and movements of a figure skater, celebrating this beautiful sport, as well as the city of London. The aim of this video mapping spectacle is to bring Londoners and visitors together outside, in a public place, to share a memorable multimedia experience.
Families can enjoy the Canadian Tire Family Zone. It is a free, family entertainment area where the whole family can spend some quality time together. This is the place to celebrate all things skating whether it’s decorating your very own gold medal in the 3M Make a Medal Station, posing for a photo in the Kiss & Cry booth, practicing your sports reporter skills in the Be A Commentator booth, getting your groove on at the Step to the Beat video dance booth or expressing yourself at the 3M Message Board, there is something for every family member!
Debbi Wilkes and Elizabeth Manley will host ‘The Hot Seat Pre and Post Game Shows’ in Skate Canada House. Fans will be able to join Debbi and Liz as they describe the excitement of the day’s events, the history of the competitors, who to watch and what to look for. Their behind-the-scenes experience and knowledge will offer some rare glimpses into the pressure and demands of competing at the world level.
Fans will be able to watch the figure skating action on outdoor screens at the London Hydro Family Viewing Zone. Skate Canada House will also show the event live in its hospitality and entertainment tent where adults can enjoy food and beverages.
Times and dates for all of the Light Up London activities can be found online in the visitor’s guide.
